Invention entitled ‘Method of shaping sheet metal parts with curvilinear side walls and assembly for shaping sheet metal parts with curvilinear side walls on a split mandrel’ (Pat.241935/P.437093)
Description:
A method of shaping sheet metal elements with curvilinear side walls by rotational shaping of sheet metal in the form of a disc, polygon or drawpiece, finding application for shaping sheet metal products with circular or polygonal cross-sections, including road signs, parts and components for the automotive, aerospace or lighting industries. The new solution makes it possible to shape such elements in which the diameter at any point of the cross-section of the shaped element is smaller than the largest inner diameter of the blank (drawpiece). On the other hand, the developed device for rotary shaping of sheet metal elements with curvilinear side walls, the so-called split template, makes it possible to change the diameter of the tool very quickly, and thus to take out the workpiece, which in previous solutions took several / tens of times longer.
Benefits:
- cheaper service due to the reduction of the manufacturing time of the element,
- possibility of making parts with variable inner diameter, so called “semi-closed” parts,
- shorter lead time.
Status of legal protection:
The technology consists of patent Pat.241935 granted by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, in force from 22 February 2021.
The property rights to the invention are vested 100% in the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Poznań Institute of Technology.
