Invention entitled ‘Method of forming thin-walled profiles with variable cross-section and device for forming thin-walled profiles with variable cross-section’ (P.428361)

Description:

The object of the invention is a method of forming thin-walled profiles with variable cross-section and a device for forming thin-walled profiles with variable cross-section, in particular for the manufacture of products in the form of diffusers with a conically expanding cross-section, which are used, among others, as car construction components in the automotive and transport industries, with particular reference to aviation. The use of diffusers can take place in the forming of components for the construction of aircraft engines. The task of the invention is to indicate such a method of forming thin-walled profiles with variable cross-section, which would make it possible to introduce tensile pre-stress in the formed profile during the bending process with simultaneous laser heating of the deformed area, and to develop the construction of a device for implementing this method.

Benefits:

  • the possibility of reducing the number of technological operations through the use of a new solution,
  • the possibility of making parts from a single element, instead of two as before (concerns diffusers in engines),
  • increased product quality through even temperature distribution in the bending area of the formed profile, which directly increases its formability.

Status of legal protection:

The technology consists of patent application to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland registered under number P.428361 of 27 December 2018.

Property rights to the invention are vested 100% in the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Poznań Institute of Technology.
