Invention entitled ‘Method for low-pressure cold spraying of particulate powder coatings and system for low-pressure cold spraying of particulate powder coatings’ (Pat.243972/P.435568)

Description:

The object of the application is a method for producing coatings by low-pressure cold spraying from powder materials, and the construction of a stand for conducting the technological process. The technology according to the invention allows the production of coatings from any type of engineering materials: metals, ceramics and plastics and their composite mixtures. The technology allows the process to be carried out using compressed air as the process gas and at a low process temperature, which significantly reduces process costs. At the same time, it allows the application of thermally sensitive materials such as plastics. With the current state of the art, thermal and cold spray technologies are used which require inert or process gases and significant amounts of energy.

Benefits:

  • Fabrication of coatings from application-specific materials
  • Incremental deposition of coatings up to millimetre-scale thicknesses
  • Possibility of regeneration of worn surfaces and machining of the overlay layer
  • Low porosity and high adhesion of coatings

Status of legal protection:

The technology consists of patent Pat.243972 granted by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, in force from 1 October 2020.

The property rights to the invention are vested 100% in the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Poznań Institute of Technology.
