Invention entitled ‘Machine for harvesting, binding and stacking sheaves of braided wicker’ (Pat.222157/P.400978)

Description:

This machine is designed to mechanise the harvesting of braided wicker during its dormant period and similar high-growing plants, while maintaining the quality requirements for this raw material. In this way, it makes it possible to eliminate the tedious manual work of harvesting wicker. The machine performs the following operations: it cuts the wicker rods, binds the cut rods into sheaves, and places the sheaves in the field at a distance allowing the next working pass to be made freely. The machine, in the mechanisms activating the binding apparatus, has a servo mechanism applied, together with the power supply, control and switching system cooperating with it, which has replaced the mechanical assemblies consisting of a roller horn, cams or ratchet-lever systems connected to a crank mechanism, activating the mechanism switching on the binding apparatus, which at the same time hinders free sheaf ejection and generates large momentary forces in the cooperating mechanisms and temporary noise of considerable intensity. The use of the solution according to the invention allows a smooth, unrestricted adjustment of the size of the sheaf, reduces the reciprocal forces occurring between the mating mechanisms by eliminating the thrust horn mechanically stretching the release hook of the sheaf drive shaft, and, by releasing this latch more smoothly, also generating a noise of lower intensity.

Benefits:

  • easy and maintenance-free (tractor operator only) harvesting of braided wicker and similar plants;
  • guiding the wicker rods continuously in a vertical position to the reel, which moves the rods and vertically forms the bundle;
  • low power requirement;
  • possibility to collect also small rods curved forward and to reduce losses.

Status of legal protection:

The technology consists of patent Pat.222157 granted by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, in force from 28 September 2012.

The property rights to the invention are vested in 100% in the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Poznań Institute of Technology.
