Invention entitled ‘Agents for protection against fungi and algae and methods of protecting wood against fungi and algae using these agents’ (Pat.226089/P.399736)

Description:

The object of the invention are modern, environmentally friendly fungicides and algicides and ways to protect wood from fungi that cause brown, white and gray decay, as well as from filamentous fungi especially mold, blue-green fungi and algae. These agents can be used for both surface protection and pressure treatment.

The proposed agents for the protection of coniferous and deciduous wood against fungi and algae, are characterized by very strong penetration properties into the wood up to 1.6 times deeper than known agents, and the leaching rate from wood is up to 50% lower than that of known ammonium halides. A characteristic feature of these agents is also very low corrosion aggressiveness to steel. They are characterized by a broad spectrum of action, and are designed for the protection of usable wood both indoors and outdoors in use classes 1-4 (of the threat of biological attack).

Benefits:

  • the possibility of obtaining effective protection against depreciation and degradation of wood using low concentrations of new agents,
  • obtaining protective agents deeply penetrating the wood, allowing the use of protected wood in the 4th class of use, in contact with the ground,
  • obtaining wood protection against wood decaying fungi, mold and algae,
  • good preservation effect of the agents in wood,
  • the possibility of using the agents to protect other materials susceptible to overgrowth and decomposition by microorganisms.

Status of legal protection:

The technology consists of patent Pat.226089 granted by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, in force from 1 July 2012.

The property rights to the invention are vested in 100% in the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Poznań Institute of Technology.
