Invention entitled ‘A method of protecting the surface of wood from the effects of light’ (Pat.225729/P.412182)
Description:
The object of the invention is a method of protecting the surface of wood from light imitating indoor conditions, consisting of surface treatment of the wood and possibly refining with varnish, wax, etc.
The method, according to the invention, of protecting the surface of wood from the effects of light consists in the surface treatment of wood to remove extractive phenolic compounds, and then applying to the surface of wood metal oxides selected from the group: titanium oxide, zinc oxide, cerium oxide, praseodymium(III) oxide, praseodymium(IV) oxide, neodymium(III) oxide, yttrium oxide, erbium oxide, or mixtures or combinations thereof, in the form of an impregnant or as a component of a varnish. By mixtures are meant mixtures of oxides while by combinations are meant a multilayer system in which there is only one oxide in a single layer and the second or subsequent oxide in a second or subsequent layer.
Benefits:
- The method of protecting the wood surface from light according to the invention makes it possible to obtain a refined surface with good clarity of the wood grain, which plays an undoubtedly important role in evaluating the aesthetics of furniture surface finishes.
- Improved colour fastness of wood components refined according to the method covered by the patent.
Status of legal protection:
The technology consists of patent Pat.225729 granted by the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland, in force from 30 April 2015.
Property rights to the invention are vested 100% in the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Poznań Institute of Technology.
