Monitoring changes in the Polish forestry and timber sector according to the standards of the UNECE Committee on Forestry and Timber Industry 2022-2024

The Centre for Wood Technology of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Poznań Institute of Technology under the authority of the Department of Forestry and Hunting of the Ministry of Climate and Environment (https://www.gov.pl/web/klimat) implements international obligations resulting from Poland’s participation in the Global Forestry and Wood Sector Information System run by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry, https://unece.org/forests) and the Statistical Office of the European Union – Eurostat (Statistical Office of the European Communities, https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/main). They are partnered by the International Tropical Timber Organisation – ITTO (https://www.itto.int/). Information from the system also goes to Faostat, the statistical database of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (https://www.fao.org/faostat/en/#data/FO).
The current monitoring of the Polish market for wood raw material and wood processing products for the Department of Forestry and Hunting of the Ministry of Climate and Environment covers the period 2022-2024. It is summarised in annual reports covering elements such as:
- the scope of the monitoring system for the Polish forestry and timber sector in the analysed period,
- a diagnosis of the state of the Polish economy and the market for wood raw material and basic products of its processing in the years covered by the analysis, part of which are:
- statistical data from the Joint Forest Sector Questionnaire reporting package prepared for Eurostat,
- a forecast of the development of the Polish economy and wood market in the years under analysis, based, inter alia, on:
- statistical information from the UNECE Timber Forecasts Questionnaire reporting package prepared for the UNECE Committee on Forestry and the Timber Industry,
- an assessment of the qualitative changes taking place in the Polish forestry and timber industry, mainly in terms of forest and wood product certification,
- synthetic report on the status and prospects for the development of the entire Polish economy and the Polish timber market prepared for subsequent sessions of the UNECE Committee on Forestry and Timber Industry – ‘Poland – Statement of the wood market review and prospects’ (in Polish and English), taking into account the most important current issues and problems of the Polish and global forestry and timber sector.
