Development of technology for the manufacture of long products with variable cross-sections from aluminium alloys for applications including lighting poles

The project is co-financed by the European Union with funds from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Operational Programme Intelligent Development 2014-2020. Sub-measure 1.1.1 ‘Industrial research and development work carried out by enterprises’.
Type: R&D
Grant: PLN 14 386 773.99 (for Łukasiewicz – PIT : PLN 2 735 015.33)
Total value: PLN 23 752 032.78
Start date: 01.06.2021
Project completion date: 30.11.2023
The objective of the project is to carry out R&D work on the development of a comprehensive technology for the production of aluminium poles and structural elements, including the use of waste material as the basis for lighting poles. As a result of the project, Level IX of technological readiness (TRL) will be achieved, which will enable the commencement of implementation of full-scale production of innovative poles and achievement of competitive advantage, inter alia, due to the possibility of mounting the entire range of extension arms and one common base, which will facilitate assembly.
The main task of the project is to develop technology for the rotational shaping of long components (up to 12.5m) with variable cross-sections. The technology will translate into ease of product modelling, while maintaining passive safety standards. In this respect, the proposed solution enables the straight column forming process to be carried out in a single cycle.
The project will lead to the development, in addition to an innovative process, of a product innovation – an aluminium pole with the possibility of quick and simple assembly, innovative on a national scale. The product will be significantly improved over existing solutions. The rigidity of the poles will be increased through the use of higher strength aluminium alloys and a simple and fast assembly system.
It is also intended to minimise the waste (the gripping part in shear spinning) created during the production process by using it as a base or connector for a lighting pole.
