CLEANERONION – Development of an innovative technology to improve the quality of onion peeling with consideration of post-production waste management

Project objectives

The object of the project is the development of an innovative technology improving the quality of onion peeling, including the management of post-production waste for, among other things, energy purposes. The developed technology will be realised through a machine that is innovative on a European scale, which will be implemented in the own business of Management Business and Service Ltd. upon completion of the project.

Results

The project will result in a technology with innovative functionality, demonstrating its superiority through, among other things:

• possibility to peel the onions without prior sorting. The machine is suitable for peeling onions in the size range from 45 to 110 mm, regardless of the variety;
• low loss of onion mass. The developed technology will reduce the loss of post-production waste from 30-50% to 15-25%, which will increase the yield of peeled onions;
• a reduction in the amount of post-production waste and the possibility to use it for energy purposes;
• a reduction in the amount of water in further production processes by obtaining a high quality product.

The technology developed to meet the above parameters has been sought after for many years on the market by every producer involved in onion processing.
