Area of Rail Vehicles

Łukasiewicz – PIT carries out R&D works related to the development, simulation, bench and movement tests of various types of rail vehicles, rail and road-vehicles as well as their components. Based on modern research facilities equipped with unique stands and specialized research and measurement equipment, as a notified unit, we conduct approval processes for railway vehicles and trams.

We conduct R&D and innovation works in the field of new and modernized rolling stock. We implement projects related to the development of all types of rail vehicles, including: locomotives, multiple units, passenger and freight carriages, trams, rail buses, and rail-road vehicles. Regardless of the comprehensive development of entire vehicles our offer also concerns assemblies, subassemblies and their modernization. As a research unit, we provide accident expert opinions, maintenance system documentation, technical conditions of execution and acceptance, repair documentation, etc.

As part of our activity, we provide services, including:

• designing brake control systems of all types of rail vehicles
• implementation of prototypes of pneumatic devices included in the braking system of rail vehicles
• P4 inspections of brake control systems and its components
• small-series production of railway pneumatic equipment
• service of manufactured systems
• development of concepts for main, control and auxiliary circuits and their implementation into rail vehicles designed and modernized by the Institute
• strength, electrical and mechanical tests
• environmental tests (lighting tests, microclimate tests, acoustic tests, flammability tests, tests of compliance with the European Commission Regulation 1300/2014 (TSI PRM), tests of resistance to mechanical shocks and shocks).

An accredited Testing Laboratory of Rail Vehicles (AB 744 accreditation certificate) operates in Łukasiewicz – PIT. In addition, we maintain an accredited product certification unit (AC 173 accreditation certificate) and an accredited inspection unit (AK 024 accreditation certificate).

Due to expert knowledge, equipment facilities and many years of experience, we are the only institution on the market which carry out works related to rail vehicles comprehensively.
