He graduated from the Faculty of Working Machines and Transport at Poznań University of Technology in 1982, specialising in rail vehicles. He was awarded a Doctor of Technical Sciences degree from the same faculty in 2001. He has been working at the Institute for 40 years. Between 1990 and 1992, he was a development engineer at Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG). There, he developed the design of the ‘Cobra’ traction bogie for a low-floor tram. Between 1995 and 2001, he was a member of the international Working Group B12/7 ORE/ERRI/UIC, which dealt with the selection of suspension systems for short-wheelbase two-axle freight wagons. Member of the Association of Polish Engineers and Mechanics. Author of two monographs and co-author of three monographs, two ORE/ERRI/UIC reports, and approximately 100 articles in scientific and trade journals. Author of over 200 studies and expert reports for the rolling stock manufacturing industry, its partners and rail operators. Author of expert reports on determining the causes of derailments and the safety of rolling stock operations.
He is an expert in the design and operation of traction running gear, the broadly defined gauge of rail vehicles, and rail vehicle components, particularly wheels, axles, wheel sets and bogie frames. He also specialises in analytical and empirical investigations into the causes of derailments of rail vehicles, particularly freight wagons. Between 1993 and 2002, he led a design team responsible for the design of freight wagon bogies, and between 2007 and 2015, a team responsible for the design of running gear for all types of rail vehicles.
